This piece was created for the "Marred and Feathered" category, which involved incorporating a bird or birds into the painting. So I attempted to create an imaginary Pacific Island based culture...but on another planet! A place where the norms and rules overlap, intersect,and diverge from our Earth. That gave me leeway to create a hybrid Bird Fish deity,drawing from Solomon Islands,Papua New Guinea,and other Pacific societies' rich depositories of art and storytelling. All the hornbills gather when the Bird Fish appears, and if a village is lucky, or a hunting party is blessed, they too can witness this strange but benevolent creature....
The original diptych is pretty big (around 3 x 4 feetish..... BUT! if you are interested in adopting the original painting, please contact me and we can make it happen!
